Professor Stefan Sing

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Combining Ball Juggling with Contact Improv dancing, Professor Stefan Sing, has been the Ministry’s favorite ball juggler for a couple of years now.

He is pictured above teaching one of his legendary workshops at EJC 2006 - one day in your life, attend one of these workshops, even if you’re not a juggler.
If we could award honorary qualifications, then we would give Stefan Sing an Honorary Professor of Juggling and Manipulation.
Stefan Sing.com is a pop-up flash site, with navigation that takes a bit of poking around to find stuff, we love the slick graphics.

On his site there are 2 videos, check out june 2006 training - this is amazing juggling, although to be honest, for me this isn’t representative of Professor Sing - I don’t think I’ve ever seen him stand so still!

You will also find some great footage of him on the highly recommended EJC 2006 DVD, Thursday night open stage performance.
I hope we didn’t make anyone blush too much.

Let’s have some Robots…

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

No Ryan, not those kind of robots… ;) but these robots are equally cool.

The first is a set of robotic blocks, that move between shapes, and really resemble Digital Snakes.

The second is a video of a robotic snake. this thing moves really well, and shows just how Mutliball snakes and trains should move.

Charleston plus Daft Punk

YouTube - charleston style

Ok, I apologise for blogging a video of Al Minns and Leon James dancing Charleston that has been sullied by putting a Daft Punk soundtrack over it.

Now, with that out of the way, by watching this video we can see many of the influences of modern Boogaloo, Locking, housedance, and indeed, many of the funk styles; the poses, the funky footwork, the energy.

Me Likey.

More little-crunchy-bendy-mini-girls-with-skillz
Got a long slow intro - skip to 1:05sec. then see some incredible RG. I like the ball sequences - 1:30 to 1:50sec.
That gives me an idea - The ministry video archive has enough new RG to edit together another Ministry Reasearch Video - “RG Bodyrolls II” as a sequal to: RG Bodyrolls Montage
Anyone interested in seeing some more bendy ball rolling skills?

The Jog
Brian Gadomski, Andrew “Mutton” Gradisher, Joe Showers & David Stephens write words about juggling technique and reviews of conventions and shows etc
They’ve not been updating nearly enough this year, hopefully if we poke them [poke] they will a bit more.

The Death of Detours

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Recently www.detoursvideo.com went down, and there are no more sales of the Detours DVD. My guess is they were attacked by copywrite lawyers, who forced them to pay licence fees for the music used throughout the video and they were forced to stop production.

Here is the archive from when the site was still alive.
Detoursvideo.com via web.archive.org
Bless you, archive.org!

Detours VideoDetours was a masterpiece of illusional styles in dance. If kept alive; that video would have continued to provide an income to the dancers all throughouts their careers; It would have gained more and more exposure and continued to add new inspiration to the dance community. The DVD is still available to buy through several online retailers, but with the loss of detoursvideo.com, the momentum seems gone.

Floating on the web are the other solo promo releases..
Elsewhere
Midus
Skywalker
There was also a 2nd trailer for the Extended DVD

And recently, segments of Elsewhere’s solo from the DVD have appeared on youtube. I’ve added them to a channel on
MoM TV
(channel guide/Bodypopping-Detours)
